AI backtesting with Claude and ChatGPT

Add one connector to the assistant you already use, then backtest NIFTY and SENSEX options by asking in plain English.

  • You need a Google account and Claude or ChatGPT
  • Result a backtest with metrics, in your chat

    Eight steps, no code

QuantDesk Backtest plugs into your assistant through a connector (an MCP server, the standard way assistants reach outside tools). Your assistant fetches historical 1-minute option data, runs the backtest inside QuantDesk and brings the results back to your chat.

    Step 1 of 8
    1. Settings › Connectors Illustration

      No custom connectors yet
      + Add custom connector

      1Open your assistant's connector settings

In Claude: Settings → Connectors. In ChatGPT: a paid plan with Developer Mode, then a new custom connector. Menu names change from time to time; search the assistant's help for "custom connectors" if you cannot find them.

      Click + Add custom connector.

      Other assistants

The same URL also works in Gemini CLI (the consumer Gemini app has no custom-connector option), Grok, Perplexity (Pro and above) and coding tools such as Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code.

    What can go wrong

    • The assistant answers without using QuantDesk

Start a new chat, make sure the connector is connected (Claude) or switched on (ChatGPT), and say "use QuantDesk". Allow the tool if asked.

    • It asks you to sign in again

Open the connector in your assistant's settings, click Connect, sign in with the same Google account.

    • A limit message on the Free plan

This month's backtests or AI actions are used, the data is older than 6 months, or the instrument is outside NIFTY and SENSEX. Wait, adjust, or buy a pass.

    • SPX, SPY or MCX requests are refused

US and MCX tools are Pro only. A pass unlocks them immediately.

    • A rate-limit message

Too many tool calls in a short time. Wait a minute and ask again.

    • ChatGPT or Gemini has no connector option

ChatGPT needs a paid plan with Developer Mode. For Gemini, use Gemini CLI; the Gemini app does not support custom connectors.

    Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to code?

No. You describe the strategy in plain English and your AI assistant calls QuantDesk's tools. If a rule is too unusual for the built-in templates, the assistant can write a Python backtest that runs on QuantDesk, and that works on the Free plan too.

    Is QuantDesk Backtest free?

There is a Free plan: 5 backtests and 500 AI actions a month, the last 6 months of data, and NIFTY and SENSEX for F&O. Your first 24 hours after signing up have full Pro access. Pro passes unlock everything else.

Which AI assistants work with QuantDesk?

Claude on web, desktop and mobile; ChatGPT on a paid plan with Developer Mode and custom connectors; Gemini CLI (the consumer Gemini app has no custom-connector option); Grok; Perplexity Pro and above; and Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code.

    Do Pro passes renew automatically?

No. Each pass is a one-time payment for a number of days. Buying another pass adds its days on top of the time you have left.

Does a good backtest mean the strategy will make money?

No. A backtest shows how rules would have behaved on past data. Real fills, costs and future markets differ. Paper trade a strategy on LiveDesk before you risk money.
